A win in South Africa by a visiting side in Super Rugby is a rarity. The Hurricanes did it on Saturday morning when they beat the Lions 22-8 in Johannesburg to cement a first round win. So who were the players that stood out?
1.Ray Lee-Lo (second five-eighth)
The block-busting second five-eighth was strong with ball in hand, making breaks and generally being a handful for the defence.
2. Ardie Savea (openside flanker)
Savea started on his quest to live up to the fans expectations with a dominant performance especially at ruck time and with ball in hand. He was also one of the leading tackle makers in the game.
3. TJ Perenara (halfback)
Had a strong all-round performance. Cleared the ball well and took his chances on attack. He set up the try for wing Matt proctor and scored one of his own.
4. Beauden Barrett (first five-eighth)
Directed his side around the park well.
5. Jason Woodward (fullback)
Was good on the counter-attack and solid under the high ball. Made a telling run in the lead up to Proctor's try.
