Hurricanes captain and All Blacks centre Conrad Smith has announced he will leave New Zealand rugby at the conclusion of the 2015 Rugby World Cup to take up a two year deal with French club Pau.
The 33-year-old, 85-test veteran is the most capped All Blacks midfielder and has scored 25 test tries in his 12-year professional career. He is also the most capped Hurricanes player of all time with 110 appearances for the franchise.
Smith's new French club currently leads the French Pro division two competition and is almost certain to be promoted to the French Top 14 next year. The side is currently coached by former Wellington and one-time All Blacks first five-eighth Simon Mannix.
Smith will be remembered as probably the greatest All Blacks centre of all time and certainly the greatest Hurricanes player.
