It wasn't pretty from the Hurricanes last night in the 'Tron with mistakes and turnovers proving costly in a 24-16 loss to the Chiefs.
The Canes now need other Super Rugby results to go their way including a Blues loss to the Crusaders as well as a Force loss to the Reds in Perth tonight and a Chiefs loss next weekend to the Blues with all of those sides still sitting behind them in the standings. However, what makes it even tougher for the Wellington-based franchise is the fact that it has the bye in the final round of the season.
So, it could be the last time we see the Hurricanes in Super Rugby 2014 and that's surprising as they have had a very good season by all accounts. The slow start, including four losses on the trot to open the season, may just come back to haunt them. Also, the fact that two key players, captain Conrad Smith and midfield find-of-the-year Alapati Leiua, have been missing in the last two weeks due to injury has been critical.
So Hurricanes fans, we watch and we wait and we cheer on our Southern friends to get a win over the Blues tonight down in Christchurch.
