The Crusaders didn't fear so well against England in its midweek encounter which got me wondering whether our beloved Hurricanes could beat England.
Granted, both the Crusaders and England didn't have their full strength sides on the park so it was kind of hard to make a judgment.
But I'm willing to put this out there and some may call me a real optimist or/and a complete idiot but I think the Hurricanes, at full strength, at home and on song could beat England.
Let me explain why. I like the fitness of the Hurricanes forwards over England's pack. You just have to look at some of the English players to know that they could be in better physical shape and the Canes pack has shown all season that it can match it with anyone in Super Rugby. Clearly the Hurricanes backs, with All Blacks TJ Perenara, Baeuden Barrett, Conrad Smith, Julian Savea and Cory Jane, are better, at least on paper, than England's backline.
Going by this weekend's England lineup, here's how the teams would look on paper:
Hurricanes vs. England
Andre Taylor vs. Mike Brown
Cory Jane vs. Chris Ashton
Conrad Smith vs. Manu Tuilagi
Alapati Leiua vs. Kyle Eastmond
Julian Savea vs. Marlon Yardes
Beauden Barrett vs. Freddie Burns
TJ Perenara vs. Ben Youngs
Victor Vito vs. Billy Vunipola
Jack Lam vs. Chris Robshaw
Fafili Levave vs. Tom Wood
Jeremy Thrush vs. Geoff Parling
James Broadhurst vs. Courtney Laws
Jeff Toomaga-Allen vs. David Wilson
Dane Coles vs. Dylan Hartley
Ben Franks vs. Joe Marler
