Were the Blues too good for the Hurricanes last night or did the Hurricanes just play a woefully inept game in the 37-24 loss?
I'm going for the latter. The Hurricanes were terrible last night and I guess it shows how good they have been this season when they play that badly but still manage to score 24 points. The match was riddled with mistakes and lapses in defence which gave the Blues every opportunity to put points on the board and that's what they did. Never give a rabid dog a fighting chance and that's exactly what the Hurricanes did.
For me the mistakes and defensive woes came because of complacency. Hurricanes players and management will never admit to complacency but that's exactly what it looked like and I'd like to say we'll forgive them for thinking this was an easy win because the Blues have been junk this year, but it's Super Rugby for goodness sake. Any team can win given the right circumstances. The Hurricanes set those things in place for a Blues win.
It was a terribly frustrating match to watch, so much so that I contemplated not seeing the match out in its entirety. I did see it out, but this week, unlike last, it wasn't worth it. Not a great way to go into the three week break.
